  • Day 2: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park [Yuanjiajie - Tianzishan - Shili Huagang] - Stay in Wulingyuan District

      1.Morning:Yuanjiajie–The"Avatar"Inspiration

As the first stop of the day,Yuanjiajie is famous worldwide for inspiring the"Hallelujah Mountains"in the movie Avatar. To reach its mountain-top plank roads,

you’ll take a scenic cable car ride—ascending above layers of jagged peaks, which look even more ethereal with light morning mist.

Once at the top, follow the flat,easy-to-walk plank roads to discover its highlights:

Avatar Hallelujah Mountains Viewing Platform:The star spot where you’ll see towering, isolated peaks(like the iconic"Southern Sky Column")

rising from a sea of green valleys—exactly the landscape that brought the fictional Pandora to life.

Yuanjiajie Archway:A classic photo backdrop framing the endless stretch of peak forest.Stand here to capture the grandeur of Zhangjiajie’s unique geology.

Tianmen Fox Fairy Outlook:A quieter corner offering serene views of a peaceful valley, perfect for escaping crowds and soaking in the calm mountain atmosphere.

      2.Afternoon:Tianzishan–Panoramic Peak Vistas

After Yuanjiajie, take the park’s internal shuttle bus to Tianzishan,a high-altitude scenic area renowned for its"four wonders":sea of clouds, sunrise, winter snow,

and unobstructed peak views. Its circular plank roads wind through the top of the mountain, making it easy to explore key spots:

      Tianzi Pavilion:The highest viewing platform in Tianzishan,providing a 360°panorama.

On clear days, you can see peaks stretching all the way to the border of Hunan and Guizhou provinces;on foggy days, the mist wraps around the peaks like a soft veil.

Shentang Bay:A mysterious deep valley surrounded by steep, towering peaks.Local Tujia legends say this was once a gathering place for tribal chieftains—today,

the valley’s ever-present mist adds an air of intrigue.

Yubi Peak:A slender,100-meter-tall peak shaped like a"jade brush"(as its name translates). It stands alone among other formations, making it one of Tianzishan’s most recognizable

           and photographed landmarks.

      3.Late Afternoon:Shili Huagang(Ten-Mile Gallery)–A Fairy-Tale Valley

End your park exploration with Shili Huagang,a 5-kilometer-long valley where nature has carved whimsical rock formations along both sides.

You can choose to explore it by electric sightseeing train(with audio commentary)or on foot(via a flat trail next to the tracks)—either way, you’ll be charmed by its"living"rock sculptures:

Three Sisters Peak:Three connected peaks of similar height, named after a Tujia folk tale about three sisters who defended their village.

From different angles, you can almost see the"sisters"standing side by side.

Lion Looking at the Moon:A rock formation that perfectly resembles a lion sitting upright, gazing at the sky.The late afternoon sun casts long shadows, making its shape even more lifelike.

Fairy Sending a Letter:A tall, thin peak topped with a small rock cluster, looking like a fairy holding a letter and standing amid the valley’s greenery—one of the valley’s most beloved spots.

      4.Evening:Stay in Wulingyuan District

After leaving the park, head to Wulingyuan District—your base for the night.

This vibrant area is just a short ride from the park’s Wulingyuan entrance and is lined with hotels(from Tujia-style guesthouses to modern mid-range options)and local restaurants.

While not a scenic"attraction,"it’s the perfect place to relax:wander Wulingyuan Pedestrian Street, taste local dishes like Tujia sour soup hot pot or smoked pork with bamboo shoots,

and prepare for more adventures ahead.

  • Day3:Zhangjiajie National Forest Park+Jinbian Creek+Yellow Stone Village

    1.Zhangjiajie National Forest Park(Entry&Park Overview)

As you enter Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, you’ll step into a world of surreal landscapes

—endless rows of quartz sandstone pillars rise from dense forests, some reaching over 300 meters tall.

The park serves as the gateway to your day’s journey, with well-marked trails and internal shuttle buses that connect its key scenic areas.

Before heading to Jinbian Stream, take a moment to absorb the park’s overall grandeur:the air is fresh with the scent of pine, and the sound of birdsong mingles with the rustle of leaves,

setting a tranquil tone for the day ahead. The park’s ecosystem is also home to rare plants and animals,

so keep an eye out for unique flora like the"Zhangjiajie pine"as you move toward your first stop.

      2.Jinbian Creek(Golden Whip Creek)

Jinbian Stream, one of the park’s most beloved spots,is a 7.5-kilometer-long valley with a meandering stream at its heart

—its water is so clear you can see pebbles and small fish gliding along the bottom.

The trail along the stream is mostly flat and easy to walk, making it suitable for all ages, and it’s flanked by lush forests and peculiar peak formations that seem to"guard"the valley.

      Key highlights here include:

Golden Whip Rock:A 380-meter-tall quartz sandstone peak that gives the stream its name.Shaped like a giant whip,it glows golden in sunlight, standing out sharply against the green forest backdrop.

Longevity Bridge:A natural stone arch spanning two small peaks over the stream. In the morning, mist often lingers around the bridge, creating a fairy-tale-like scene.

Primeval Forest Section:A stretch of the trail where ancient trees form a canopy overhead, filtering sunlight into dappled patterns on the ground.

This area is rich in negative ions, making it a perfect place to pause, breathe deeply, and connect with nature.

Walking along Jinbian Stream feels like wandering through a living painting—every turn reveals a new view of peaks, water, and greenery.

      3.Huangshizhai(Yellow Stone Village)

After exploring Jinbian Stream, you’ll head to Huangshizhai,a flat-top peak cluster known as the"Top of Zhangjiajie.

"To reach the top,you can choose to take a cable car(for aerial views of the peak forest)or hike up the"10-Mile Gallery"trail

(for a more immersive,up-close experience with the landscape).Once at the summit,a 3.5-kilometer circular plank road lets you explore its highlights without backtracking.

  • Day4:Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain

1.Tianmen Mountain Cable Car(Ascent to the Mountain Top)

Your journey begins with the Tianmen Mountain Cable Car—one of the longest and highest high-mountain cable cars in the world.

The 7.5-kilometer ride takes 25-30 minutes, carrying you from the bustling city below up to the mountain’s upper reaches. As you ascend, the scenery transforms dramatically:

you’ll pass over lush forests, winding valleys, and clusters of quartz sandstone peaks. On clear days, you can see distant mountains stretching to the horizon;on misty mornings,

the cable car feels like it’s gliding through a cloud. This ride isn’t just transportation—it’s the first immersive attraction, offering a bird’s-eye view of Tianmen Mountain’s vast landscape.

      2.Mountain-Top Scenic Area:Glass Skywalk&Yunmeng Fairy Summit

Once you reach the cable car’s upper station, you’ll step into the mountain-top scenic area, where flat plank roads wind along cliff edges and through pine forests.

           Two must-visit spots here are:

East Line Glass Skywalk:A 60-meter-long walkway built on a cliff 1,430 meters above sea level. The transparent glass floor lets you look straight down at the valley below,

creating a heart-pounding"walking on air"feeling.Surrounded by towering peaks and pine trees,

it’s both thrilling and visually stunning—don’t forget to take photos of the glass path blending with the natural landscape.

Yunmeng Fairy Summit:The highest point of Tianmen Mountain, standing at 1,518.6 meters.

A short walk from the Glass Skywalk, this summit offers 360°panoramic views. On clear days, you can spot Tianmen Cave in the distance, along with endless layers of mountains;on foggy days,

the mist drifts around the summit, creating a dreamy, otherworldly atmosphere. It’s a perfect place to pause, breathe in the fresh mountain air,and take in the mountain’s grandeur.

      3.Tianmen Cave&the 999 Steps

From the mountain-top scenic area, take the internal shuttle bus to the upper platform of Tianmen Cave

—then begin the descent via the 999 Steps of Tianmen. These stone steps wind down to the cave entrance, with each step offering a closer view of the archway above.

The number"999"symbolizes"eternal prosperity"in Chinese culture, adding cultural significance to the hike.

Tianmen Cave:The star attraction of the mountain, this natural archway is 131.5 meters high and 57 meters wide—large enough to fit a 40-story building.

Formed by millions of years of erosion,it looks like a"gate to heaven"(as its name"Tianmen"means).Walk through the cave to feel its vastness:sunlight streaming through the arch creates a warm glow, and the sound of wind echoing inside adds to the sense of awe.Standing at the cave’s lower entrance, look up to admire the arch framing the sky—a view that’s become iconic of Zhangjiajie.

      4.Tianmen Mountain Cultural Square(Optional Stop)

After visiting Tianmen Cave, take the park shuttle bus back to the mountain’s entrance area, where the Tianmen Mountain Cultural Square awaits(a great stop if you have extra time).

The square features a giant statue of Guanyin(a symbol of compassion in Chinese culture)standing amid lush greenery, along with decorative elements inspired by Tujia ethnic culture. It’s a peaceful spot to relax after a day of hiking, and you can browse small souvenir shops selling local crafts(like hand-carved wooden items or Tianmen Mountain-themed art)to remember your trip.
