Detailed Itinerary

• Day1：Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park

  1.Tianmen Mountain Cableway
  The main cable car from the city (lower station) up to the summit. Long (~7.45 km), steep in parts, offering sweeping views of forests, cliffs, valleys on the way up. 
  2.Tongtian Avenue (99 Bends Road)
  The winding mountain road with many sharp bends (“99 turns”), visible from above, dramatic roads carved along cliffs. You’ll see it as you ascend or descend. 
  3.Tianmen Cave (“Heaven’s Gate”)
  The natural arch in the mountain – a very famous landmark. Can reach via stairs (999 steps) or use escalators in tunnels. 
  4. 999 Steps Staircase
  The stairs leading up to the Tianmen Cave (Heaven’s Gate). A steep climb, impressive for stair-lovers; you can also use the escalator alternative. 

• Day2:Bailong Lift+Yuanjiajie+Yangjiajie+Tianzi Mountain

  
  Route Summary: Bailong Elev., Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain
  Key Highlights
  • Bailong Elevator: A glass, outdoor cliff elevator that rises ~326 meters (≈1,070 ft) in under 2 minutes. 

  It links the valley floor to the top of Yuanjiajie, saving hours of steep hiking. 
        •        Yuanjiajie: Famous for the peaks that inspired the “floating mountains” in Avatar, including Hallelujah Mountain,

   and the No.1 Stone Bridge (“First Bridge under Heaven”) among sandstone pillars. Scenic boardwalks, lookout platforms. 
        •        Yangjiajie: More rugged, less commercial, with steep trails, cliff walls, narrow staircases. 

  Attractions include One Step to Heaven, Natural Great Wall, Tianbo Mansion, Oolong Village etc. More adventurous, better if you have some hiking experience. 
  •        Tianzi Mountain: Known as one of the most majestic peak-forest sections. Highlights include Helong Park, Imperial Writing Brush Peaks, Fairy Offering Flowers, Fields in the Air, and the famous “Sea of Clouds”,

   dramatic lighting/sunrise/sunset views. It’s very photogenic. 

• Ten-mile Gallery+Jinbian Creek+Yellow Stone Village

  　　Route:Ten-Mile Gallery→Golden Whip Stream→Huangshizhai

  　　Overview

  　　These three are all in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park/Wulingyuan Scenic Area.

  　　You can do them in one day(if started early)or split over two,because they are fairly close and connected by park roads/shuttle buses.

  　　The route goes:first the gallery(more art-like valley),then the stream(riverine&forest),and then up to Huangshizhai(high viewpoints,plateau,more open panorama).

  　　What to See&Experience Along the Way

  　　1.Ten-Mile Gallery(Shili Hualang)

  　　•This is a scenic corridor in the Suoxi Valley(part of the park)with about~5-6 km length of valley flanked by forest,flowering plants,weird rock formations.

  　　•You can walk along a paved path or take a small scenic train.The train is good for a relaxed pace;the walk lets you stop for photo-opportunities and enjoy details.

  　　•Along the gallery,there are many stone peaks that resemble figures/animals/human shapes:e.g.“Herb-Collecting Old Man,”“Longevity Man Greeting Guests,”etc.

          Wildflowers and dense woods make it picturesque.

  　　2.Golden Whip Stream(Jinbian Xi)

  　　•After the gallery,you move to the river/stream walk.Golden Whip Stream is about 7.5 km long.

           It follows a peaceful stream through valleys of high peaks,with forest overhead,small waterfalls,natural pools.

  　　•Key spots:Golden Whip Rock(a tall,narrow pillar that the stream is named after),Zicao Pool(a calm pool with a rocky surround where purple grasses may grow),

         Jump-Fish Pool(where fish sometimes jump during spawning)are among the highlights.

  　　•The path is mostly flat(or gently sloped),well-paved,shaded by trees,with creek side views.Very relaxing.

  　　3.Huangshizhai(Yellowstone Village/Huangshi Zhai)

  　　•After the stream,you ascend to Huangshizhai.It’s more elevated:a plateau/village-village name though more like a plateau.Altitude around~1,080 meters.

  　　•There are numerous observation decks(20+),such as Front Garden,Five-Finger Peak,Ruins of the Heaven Bridge,Star Picking Terrace,Dinghai Magical Needle,etc.

          These give panoramic views over the sandstone pillars,forests,and the sweeping landscape.

  　　•You can get up either by cable car(approx 10 minutes)or hike via trails(northern or southern trail).

  　　Trails have many steps(~3,800 steps+~4 km walk in some routes)so hiking takes time/energy.
